For crimi fans,I love Inspector Rex (also known as Kommissar Rex). This Austrian crime drama was premier in Europe and Australia (very popular down under) for a decade and more. The Australian DVDS have English subtitles. Also its spinoff Stockinger, which stars a Columbo like detective, is set in gorgeous Salzberg. I like this series a lot - they're fun for beginners like me. I find the author's suggested approach helpful: trying to figure out the meaning from context, then going back at the end for unfamiliar words/phrases. My focus is on learning high German, so I found the Bavarian idioms a bit distracting. However, there's enough "normal" German to be worth reading.I would be much more positive if my next trip were to southern Germany. All in all, I really like this series. The books are a fun learning tool.
What lovely, charming books these are. Not too easy, not too hard, they provide a distinct thrill when you’re able to read a paragraph at a time without looking in the dictionary for help. Just perfect for the beginner German student, or any lover of languages.
Enough with the stupid check boxes Amazon. This is a book for learning German, no more, no less. Excellent beginner tutorials for German. The whole series is great. Two are available as audiobooks so you can work on your pronunciation, but these books are geared toward vocabulary and a little grammar.
I have several books by this author. It helps me keep fluent since I haven't anyone to speak with. Well written with everyday words and phrases.

Great series! As a novice German learner these books have been extremely helpful. I just finished the fourth book. I am reading them over and over and I'm learning faster this way than with any other method I have tried. I'm still using grammar books and flashcards and podcasts, but this is by far my favorite way to study. Nice job Andre!
