As a Rush and Neil Peart fan, my opinion is biased but I love this book. I've purchased every version of it including hardback, paperback, comics, and this one. It's a great story of a boy who learns what coming of age and life is all about and the adventures he had along the way. It's a quick and easy read that keeps you interested and is very relatable.

A very beautifully illustrated version of Peart and Anderson's steampunk universe. The pacing is very well done and the characters are consistent throughout the entirety of the novel in appearance and character. A perfect companion piece to the very powerful concept album.

I read the book and wasn't disappointed by the graphic novel which did the book justice!

Great companion to reading the Clockwork Angels book. If teens don't like to read but like the album, this is a cool companion piece.

Rush, is rush

great

This is the third incarnation of Clockwork Angels. First there was the Rush album, then the novel by Kevin J. Anderson, and now this, with illustrations by Nick Robles. I think the album is tremendous, and the novel was a lot of fun, especially given all the Rush easter eggs throughout. The graphic novel, however, suffers in comparison, and the reason is clear: The story simply is not strong enough, and this format exposes those weaknesses. For an album, the story can meander and have weak points, as lyrics often have their own logic, and the bass, drums, and guitar add layers all their own. The music itself provides depth where the narrative may be lacking. In the prose novel, Anderson and Peart clearly had a ball fleshing out the story and playing in the steampunk world Peart had originally envisioned. Even if the story is a bit childish, the sense that the authors were treating the fans to something special really came through. In the graphic novel, though, the story is asked to hold up with minimal dialogue, so there's a return to the basic lyrics of the album, and the art just cannot hide the faults the way the music did on the album. To be fair, the art is quite good. Robles does an admirable job showing the characters and especially the scenery of this world. The story itself is what gets clunky, and this version just can't recover. The authors declare that they are already at work on a sequel, and I wonder if it will be better when freed from the constraints of matching an existing album and novel. If they can create a story with rhythms that go better with the graphic novel format, I'd certainly be happy to see it. As it stands, though, the best way to experience this story is with the original Rush album.

Neil Pert's opus and great book.

I returned this. Frankly the advertising, publishers descriptions seems misleading by saying it's useful for all Access developers. I could find nothing in it useful for me. None of the examples seem "mainstream", but seem more on the fringe, and hyper-advanced. But then, if you're an extremely advanced extremely elite developer doing very unusual and fringy things on the leading edge, pioneering Access use, you may not be that connected with or interested in what "most" developers are doing. There are many beginnining and intermediate developers, and being one of them, this book doesn't speak to me at all. By way of analogy, there are many mountain climbers and most of them don't need details on Mt. Everest routes. This book will likely be of great interest and loved by developers who are at the top of their field and seeking even greater challenges. The low stars are for miscommunicating that it's only for these "top guns" of the profession.

First let me qualify "great content" - as a casual Access user who is very familiar with Excel VBA, I found the tips to be well written, logical and useful. It is not a book I will read cover to cover to learn about Access but rather use for specific solutions on current projects. For me, the content is applicable to my level - a seasoned developer on the other hand may not find much to augment their repertoire. However, I do wish I had purchased the hard copy rather than the Kindle edition. In the e-edition, the chapter titles do not appear. So even though I know that Part I deals with tables, I do not know what each chapter deals with. The table of contents is linked to the chapters so if you touch a chapter you will go directly to it. That's nice but I'd like to know where I'm going first. This hunt and peck method is supremely frustrating and takes away from a great resource. If you are working on your computer and using your tablet to reference the book, you can open up the Wiley site and browse the contents. Again though, this is a workaround and in my opinion a poor substitute for what should have been provided in the first place. Also, some of the figures and snapshots do not appear crisp nor scale well so the detail you need to see is lost. So...content - great; Kindle edition - skip. IMO.

I have a fairly large library of books on programming in VBA for MSAccess, MSExcel, MSWord and many, many other programming books on a variety of other topics. One of the unique and useful aspects of this book is that it addresses specific issues, tasks or problems and does so with interesting solutions and code. The format and layout of each solution is, for me, a bit unwieldy. It seems every publisher (Wrox, O'Reilly, Wiley) has adopted a different format for the presentation and discussion of code as it relates to a given solution and that difference requires a bit of "translation" between publishers and takes some getting used to when switching between publishers -- so maybe it's just me...

Good book, lots of good ideas. Hard to adapt the code but I'm not an expert programmer.

Some really great stuff here that you wont find in other Access Books. You can tell this was written by people who actually USE Access and not instructors. Good Buy. Not for the Beginner though.

Very pleased with this book. I've been able to apply some of the ideas in my database design.

neat practical items not found elsewhere

Good book, i found what i need.

I was very excited to find a children's book about Unitarian Universalism since there aren't a lot out there. Its a cute title and cover and the content of the book does give a concise introduction to Unitarian Universalism. However, there isn't anything interesting or entertaining about it. It presents the facts in a simple way but its kind of boring. I think that the DRE at my church could write a much better book!

Great book.

I'm using this book for reference in the 4th/5th grade curriculum I'm writing, and it's too young for them, but still very good. Good for introduction and exploration of our unique faith tradition. -Rev. Christina

This is a good book for starting to talk to kids about UU. It clears up a lot of questions I remember having as newcomer to the faith.

Great book for kids growing up UU. It is also a great book to help others understand what Unitarian Universalism is about.

Obviously nobody is going to buy this unless you are raising your kid as a UU. If you are, it's a good book. No more to say.

We are looking for a book to give to visitors at our church. I thought this would be a good book for children. After reading it, I think it would be great for adults too. Very good explanation of Unitarian Universalism without being too detailed (or boring). And who doesn't like pictures in their books?

Great book, with a simple explanation of Unitarian Universalism. Love it!
