"Quebec 1759" is an Osprey Campaign Series entry, and the second Osprey look at the key battle in North America of the Seven Year's War. The book follows the standard Osprey format in presenting a concise account of the campaign. It opens with an introduction and a comparison of the opposing commanders and their armies and plans. Succeeding chapters cover the British campaign against Quebec, leading up to the decisive battle on the Plains of Abraham in September 1759, and concluding with the relief of the British Army in spring 1760, themselves besieged in the captured fortress. The book offers a good selection of period illustrations, maps, diagrams and photographs, and the narrative is workmanlike. Author Stuart Reid spends perhaps too much time on his own opinions about the campaign, including British Commander General James Wolfe's disputes with his own subordinates. In the process, Reid essentially accuses Wolfe of psychosomatic illnesses. A more common explanation is that Wolfe suffered from, among other things, kidney stones, an exquisitely painful and debilitating ailment that can be brought on by extended stress. Worth a look as an introduction to the topic.

While I was reading the book, I was suprised at how little the French side was covered. It was as though the French didn`t even fight, and just let the British bow them over. I felt that a bit more balanced coverage of the campaign would have been better. Having only the colors of the French metropolitian regiments shown as a representation of the French forces was too little. Of all of the Osprey books that I have bought, this one is probobly the one that I am most disappointed in. It was a fair account of the British side, but even that, I found it annoying that the depection of a member of the 13th Regt as a stand in for other regiments in the campaign was a bit off. There are plenty of North American British reenactors of regiments in that campaign which could have been used. I`m currently a Masters student and if I had submitted something like this for a paper, I would probobly fail.

Very useful book describing the battles for Quebec. This is an Army centric overview but I wish there had been more information about the specific roles that the Royal Navy played. This could be described as one of the first joint operations in the last four hundred years.I have visited Quebec City and not much remains of the original site.

Recently I had read "War That Made America - A Short History of the French and Indian War" by Fred Anderson. I was particularly taken with chapter 21 - "The Plains of Abraham". A pivotal battle, two seasoned commanders, events hinge on apparent chance and then both leaders are killed in battle - an amazing story told extremely well. I made a mental note to check Osprey Publications to determine if they have a title related to this battle. My search was fruitful and I purchased "Quebec 1759 The Battle That Won Canada" by Stuart Reid. Utilizing extensive illustrations the author introduces us to the principal French and British officers; provides detailed descriptions of the various forces and their uniforms and equipment. The focus in this book is the military events, who were the belligerents, what equipment they use, where they camped, how many soldiers each army fielded, how many cannons they employed...you get the idea. This is not a geo-political analysis describing why the British traveled to Quebec in 1759 and fought the French. That very interesting story is told in "War That Made America - A Short History of the French and Indian War" mentioned above.Readers new to Osprey titles should be aware all books from this published are similar in size to a National Geographic magazine with a thicker paper cover. The page count of this title was 98 and contained many period artwork and drawing reproductions, several full color painting created especially for this title and 3 double pages maps showing troop placements and battle progress.

While credible in basics, this work does little to fully explore the battle. It is sadly deficient in enumerating the activities and names of French regulars and militia. It does bless the reader with photographs of the fix-bayonet sequence of period British regulars (whatever that has to do with anything). Not equal with other Osprey volumes (René Chartrand's Monongahela for example).

This book is a much better review of the Quebec 1759 campaign. It gives a balanced account covering both sides in detail. Be it a history student, wargamer or military modeller, it gives the information that you would need.

Osprey's Order of Battle series offers considerably more detail than its standard Campaign series format. In Quebec 1759, René Chartrand provides his usual high quality level of historical research, as well as unique insights into this famous campaign that determined the fate of New France. The volume begins with eight pages that provide the strategic background to the campaign and outline the opposing French and British plans. However, the heart of the volume consists of 49 pages spent detailing all the various French and British units that participated in the campaign. Each line infantry battalion receives one full page of coverage, listing its strength, organization and recent history. Minor units, such as the French colonial cavalry, various militias, Royal Marines, artillery and engineers also receive similar coverage. For anyone interested in the Quebec campaign, the order of battle information provided herein will be indispensable. There is also considerable information on the unit commanders interwoven throughout this section. The campaign itself is covered in the final 30 pages and Chartrand's summary is flawless. Many minor logistical and administrative issues are addressed, in addition to the tactical maneuvering. Chartrand's account of the final climactic Battle on the Plains of Abraham is the best that I have ever read concerning that action. A large foldout map of the battlefield is also provided. This is a superb piece of military historical research.

There is something about this book that draws you in even though most of the characters are self-centered and malicious and you tend not to like them. The current of love, lust, and possession runs throughout the story which is told to the new renter of "The Grange" by the housekeeper of Wuthering Heights. As she sits and knits she spins the tale of the tempestuous love story of Cathy and Heathcliff, slowly but surely you are pulled in to all the machinations that the Lintons and Earnshaws and the orphan Heathcliff engage in across the cold, damp, windswept moors of the Yorkshire estate. Your mind becomes filled with Heathcliff, always Heathcliff, watching planning and deeply in love with Cathy. The story follows their lives through two generations. As a reader, I have to wonder what state of mind Emily Bronte was in when she wrote the turbulent tale. Published in 1847 the story was considered lurid and shocking, but a masterpiece. It is Bronte's only novel and is as relevant today as it was back then. Emily Bronte had been ill for some time and died in December of 1848.

A timeless classic. I read this book a long time ago and decided to read it again. Enjoyed it even more as a more mature women. :-) It's a sad story that makes you feel sorry for many of the characters but it's a good escape back to a time and place so different from where we are now.

I enjoyed the book. I was surprised how our modern-day language has, apparently, been dumbed down over the years. I'm college-educated, but found many words she used to be ones I had never heard. That said, I still enjoyed the book. I probably should have read it years ago in some English class, but it was never required. I took my time with no looming deadlines and enjoyed it.

There are two reviews here, since this special version of the book has two things going on. When I was a kid I had some weird built-in prejudice against anything labeled "classic". Unknowingly I read "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn" and even Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar," but I thought I had "discovered" them--had anyone told me they were classics, I wouldn't have read them. Stupid, but true. When I was in my thirties I read "A Tale of Two Cities" and re-thought my whole position on the classics--maybe there was a reason they were called that. So I read a lot of them, but I never read "Jane Eyre." I saw about four different movie versions of it, though, and figured I knew the story well enough. But when Writer's Digest announced this version, I saw a chance to correct an omission AND get some good writing advice. KM Weiland's book on structure, after all, is a masterpiece. Hence, this double-edged review.1. Jane Eyre. The movie versions I've seen were, surprisingly, fairly true to the book (not often the case, as anyone who reads a book and then watches its movie knows). Shy governess, obnoxious-but-philosophical middle aged guy. Crazy wife in the attic. Missionaries. They hit all the high points. But Bronte's prose is well-done, and her characters are far more complex than the movies. She has a great way of building suspense, too. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I wanted to see it happen, so I kept reading. And I was satisfied when I closed the book: a good story, well-told.2. The notes. Weiland's notes are, at the risk of sounding sycophantic, brilliant. Remember, these notes are about the writing of the book, not about the historicity or any of the other kinds of analysis you'd usually see in annotations. (My annotated "Sense and Sensibility" practically explains each curtsy as well as why dances lasted half an hour.) There's plenty of analysis, but it's all about how Bronte tells the story. For readers of Weiland's "Structuring Your Novel," it's like a Part II, showing the First Plot Point, (p118), Midpoint (p216), Third Plot Point (p325), Resolution and Epilogue. There are even pages at the back with questions (and lines for answering them or writing other notes) about structure. But wait, there's more! There are notes on perspective, voice, POV, conflict and tension, obstacles, character development, transitions, and way more than that. (I'm laundry listing here--but trust me, the notes could practically be their own book.)I'm a writer myself, though you won't see my name in Amazon in that capacity--I ghost write. Under my own name, I'm also a freelance editor (developmental, substantive, and copy--you name it, I do it) and have been one for years. But I still read books on writing all the time. Some I love, some I tolerate, and a few I've ridiculed (after jumping up and down on their tattered remains). But this book is its own category, or perhaps it defies category. It's a writing master class, analyzing a masterpiece of English literature to make its key points. If I were a writing teacher, this would be required reading for my classroom. One thing alone keeps the book from getting the fifth star, and it's a mechanical thing, nothing against Bronte or Weiland. They did their jobs well! But the typeface for the story is a serif font, and it's ten points at most, maybe eight. I needed to buy a +2 set of "cheaters" to read the story alone--and the notes are worse. They're a pale blue sans serif (the contrasting serif/sans serif fonts are good; the size is not and the pale color is not) that was hard to read even with the +2 cheaters. The notes are in the outer margins and take up about a third (one column) of each page. I wish they'd gone for broke and instead of giving us a six-by-nine (I'm eyeballing it, so the measurements are probably not exact), gone up a couple of sizes, just for the sake of those of us who are over 40. Then maybe they could've made the print a decent size.

Read the description. This is an 8.5 × 11 monstrosity that is masquerading as a "paperback". Ridiculous. I mean, sure, shame on me for not reading a description, but when most people say paperback, they don't mean a students textbook. Sheesh.

This old classic is a classic for a reason. IF I read it in high school I don't remember it. So I enjoyed a delightful read over several days, savouring the descriptions, enjoying the character development as well as the plot. At first I thought it was a children's book, but after reading it, I think the children of today would have a hard time understanding many of the beautiful uses of the English language that Charlotte Bronte perfected.

I have a very rare channelopathy, so I picked up this book at my local library to better understand my condition. I was enthralled with her ability to simplify the complexity of the function of ion channels. In the last fifteen years the field has exploded with information. It has been difficult to keep up with all of the new research. This book laid it out in simple terms that a non-scientist can understand. I did not appreciate my disorder being compared to a syndrome suffered by quarter-horses or myotonic goats. Like most researchers, she seems to lack the understanding of a human living with a channelopathy. After reading it part of the way through, I bought the book, and suggested it to many others. It is a very good book for those trying to understand migraines, periodic paralysis, some forms of epilepsy, myotonia, cystic fibrosis, and other channelopathies. I will keep it on my shelf for reference. I hope she follows up with more indepth books on the subject.

This is a great book. It explains, in terms the layman can follow, how electricity works in the body, how it is different from the electricity that keeps the lights on, what exactly is a pore in the cell membrane and the staggering number of ions that can pass through a single pore, how the pore actively regulates the passage of phosphorus ions (large) and sodium ions (small) in and out of the cell across the cell membrane. Years ago I wondered how ATP worked, how did it actually make a muscle cell contract, and then I found an explanation: a fast acting ratcheting mechanism. This book answers "how does it work, really?" questions. I have not finished reading it yet, but every chapter is fascinating. It's a perfect book for Kindle.

Bought the print version, twice. Gave one copy to our internist physician. Excellent descriptions of how our bodies work down to the tiniest sparks. Advancements in science of measurements enable many discoveries.

This book is required reading for my anatomy & physiology 313 class and I can see why! It is fun and educational. Very well written and enjoyable. The author explains concepts that can be difficult to understand in ways that are relatable for the non-scientist without sacrificing the details that keep a scientist reading. It is difficult to find science books like good. I am very glad that my professor has us read this for his class.

Good, but not as informative as I would have liked.

This book takes you into subjects that you have often questioned but didn't know where to get the answers. Like how do electric eel's make electricity and just how dangerous are they. She also takes you through a number of poisons and how they effect the body. I could not wait to finish the book in order to start it again. Loved it

A very readable and informative book concerning the functioning of our bodies residing in the minutae of the components of our cells. As the title suggests the relationship of electricity to our celluar functions is clearly explored. Interesting information is included concerning the progression of our knowledge of this subject over time with reference to maladies that have arisen due to dysfunction or mutation of our cells. The heart, brain and other organs are separately covered over the course of the book which utilizes pictures, diagrams and a bit of poetry to illustrate the information conveyed.

Ms. Ashcroft explains very clearly and very interestingly the workings of the cell, mainly the cell membrane and its protein ion gates. She illustrates with many examples that will hold your attention and you will find yourself saying "wow! I didn't know that!" as you read. The book is easily read, understood and a complicated part of human physiology is explained very well. I would even consider it suitable for a textbook or addition to any class discussing human physiology.

#19,513 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

Wen’s Holistic Tarot presents a comprehensive guide for using the tarot as a tool for self-knowing, exemplifying the modern tarot movement. It is a book for the 21-century. Wen threads together western esotericism and eastern philosophy beautifully. Holistic Tarot has almost everything you need in one book.Chapter one, Tarot Analytics, A Holistic Approach summarizes Wen’s direction which she has geared the book. There are many points of discussion to be found here. I found myself either agreeing with Wen or questioning/disagreeing with a few of her points.Wen’s perspective is clearly defined on page one, second sentence, where she says that tarot is a “science of the mind”. Wen elaborates, explains that tarot has absorbed the wisdom of many cultures through the ages. The tarot “represents the spectrum of human archetypal conditions and personalities, which can be used by the modern day practitioner for psychological projective evaluation”. Wen describes tarot as a holistic tool. Holistic by definition is inclusive in approach in regards to healing. It takes into consideration the body/mind/spirit (whole person) instead of focusing on one part or symptom. For Wen, tarot as a holistic tool allows us to “mine the unconscious” for answers. Tarot is also a tool to be consulted in decision making by charting a “road map for the solution”.Do not pick up this book if you want to learn fortunetelling, Wen takes an anti-fortunetelling position. “I do not support fortune-telling and I do not believe in future-telling. My approach to tarot is not predictive. It is analytic”. Wen un-deifies the tarot by assuring the reader that tarot is not “a tool of the gods” or “demons” (the later ok, but the former I have some things to say). In chapter three Wen says that “fortune telling serves no benefit”. It diverts the client’s attention from the present into the future. It also diverts the client’s focus from their spirituality and into future outcomes, to the “superficial and the material”. Wen says that you should use tarot to understand the why and how as to not lose sight of what is happening now. Wen is too pessimistic about fortune telling for my taste.I find that Wen is making concrete statements. Wen defines what her tarot analytics is in contrast to fortune telling to make it clear to the reader what her approach is. However, I feel there could have been more of an effort not to discredit or shrug off fortune telling/divination so early in the book. She does “acknowledge” the different perspectives such as a card game, fortune telling or the integration into alternative religious practices. But I feel that someone with little background with tarot who picks up this book may take the side of Wen and adopt a negative opinion of fortune telling. That can easily lead to a superiority view of Wen’s approach or approaches similar. Fortune-telling/divination will then be looked down as lesser. Is this slipper slope thinking? Maybe, but it is possible. Wen does tell the reader to come to their own conclusions and not to blindly trust her word on what tarot is and is not.To be fair, I am someone who does support this holistic application of tarot and I do promote this perspective. I do agree that tarot is an effective tool for self-knowing and I steer my clients towards that direction in my private session. Nevertheless, I also like the “magical” side of fortune telling and divination. The holistic view, while important, for me, reduces the craft to pure Materialism, in the philosophical sense.Wen’s tarot analytics epitomizes the modern tarot movement (tarot for self-knowing). Tarot and psychology have been blending more and more over the years (Tarot and Psychology: Spectrums of Possibility by Arthur Rosengarten Ph.D, Tarot Coupling: Resources & Resolutions for Relationship Readings by Gina Thies). While the psychological insights are indeed useful and have provided great new ways of looking at tarot, it is a double edge sword for reasons I mentioned above (elitist positions/materialist perspectives). What I do applaud Wen for doing is making tarot secular and promoting its nonreligious affiliation. This removes religious fear, fear for people wanting to learn tarot and fear of those wanting a reading. Wen’s comments on the Pope’s remarks about the tarot and salvation that “only Jesus saves”. Wen’s approach is non-supernatural and in my own words Christian safe. Wen says that tarot is like “mind mapping, a method for better visualizing viable solutions to a present problem”. There is no contradiction with the Pope’s statement that “Jesus saves” and the approach of tarot analytics, any predictive attributes from tarot analytics is akin to weather forecasting, it is subject to change. This sums up the common opinion of the majority of tarot readers within in the modern movement.Chapter three, Allaying Fears and Offering Theories attacks your fears head on. Wen makes you face the dark and spooky cards, Death, The Devil and The Tower. This serves a useful point, to remove the negative baggage and presumptions, some people may have or form when encountering the tarot. We are presented with different theories as to how tarot operates. Wen has an eloquence about explaining the different theories and presents the non-mystical as well as the mystical, to be balanced.Back on the subject of fortune telling (this seems to be the crux of my review, but Wen also brings it up again and again), Wen again reflects core modern tarot movement ideas. The concept that tarot shows possible outcomes, not fixed outcomes is central to Wen’s ideology. Tarot does “not predict the future”, it “shows the most likely destination of your current journey”. For me this is still fortunetelling, just nondeterministic.Chapter five Anatomy of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot, Wen, like a surgeon, cuts into the deck and breaks down the cards. There are many charts and tables. The whole book is filled with wonderful illustration, charts and such. I love that so much, visual aids are important, especially when dealing with a tool like tarot that has many underlying ideas and concepts related to them. Charts help organize ideas and understand the relations between these concepts. Like element associations, elemental qualities, cardinal direction and others. Wen is clear to make the reader aware of different ways of viewing card meanings, how one card could have two different elemental associations (Magician Air or Earth for example). Wen allows the reader to try to decide which works for them. This is much appreciated as it presents tarot fairly balanced. Wen presents information openly and leaves it to the reader what to make of it.Chapter six The Personal Journal, Wen gives good ideas for what one can do with a tarot journal. Tarot journaling is important and sometimes people are not sure what to put in their journals, Wen covers this with solid recommendations.Chapters seven, eight and nine deal with the learning of keywords. When it comes to learning the cards and their meanings Wen suggests the memorization of keywords through repetition, which is the “most effective way”. Wen also suggests that you start to practice reading for a teddy bear as a way to get yourself acclimated to the reading process. Wan warns students who jump the gun and read for real people too soon can do more harm than good. Like a medical student operating on a person without practice on the cadaver, Wen’s analogies are gold.Wen does not reduce tarot to just keywords and nothing more, which some may jump to thinking. She makes clear the cards meaning’s are nuanced and layered. “Keywords are starting points”, tarot reading is not “the regurgitations of memorized card meanings or prepared statements”. True, I agree. To understand a card, we must put our finger on the center or core of the card’s “soul” or “essence”. Once we pin point that we can move outwards, peeling back the layers like an onion. Keywords can assist your intuition. There are 172 pages of card evaluations and meanings, including reversals. I will not go into each card and comment; we would be here for all eternity if I did. What I notice is that Wen compares cards to one another to highlight the interconnections between cards. This is important when doing a reading to recognize patterns and themes. Wen presents the esoteric undertones of the cards. She is able to bring insights to the cards via Asian philosophies which is a refreshing shift from the typical Western philosophical perspective (but does not ignore Western thought). For the Major Arcana, elemental and astrological glyphs accompany each card with key words. For the Minor Arcana keywords are provided based on the card and the numerological value. For example, five of wands, “competition, rivalry, contention” “Number 5, Uncertainty, adversity, changing tides”. Wen also includes the useful meanings of recurring cards of the same number. “Three Fives, competition” “Four Fives, Unexpected advantage”.With respect to court cards, Wen does an impeccable job of presenting this commonly difficult matter. Again, you will find charts galore that will guide you to understanding courts. Like with recurring minors, Wen gives us meanings for when we have many court cards in a reading. 3 Knights are “social cliques of young men”, 2 Queens “competing for the Seeker’s attention or affections”.Wen provides many case studies (sample readings) throughout the 141 pages in chapter 14 The Fundamentals of Readings Spreads to show tarot in action with real clients. As you go through the book Wen teaches different techniques, each paired with a case study to show its application. We see theory put into practice. In addition, there are so many illustrations! Some of these chapters could be a stand-alone book. To say it is impressive is to do Wen a disservice.Chapter 24 Inappropriate Questions deal with what a reader should avoid. This is a topic thoroughly needed in tarot literature. More people should be really thinking about what is an inappropriate question and does one deal with a situation, which deals with one. Wen gives practical advice in this area of ethics. Wen gives a guided process for possible scenarios regarding health, abuse, relationships and legal matters. We must recognize our limits as a tarot reader and know when to decline a reading and refer the client to a professional, like in the case of suicide or medical question. In addition, there is a whole other chapter, which deals with ethics more specifically.Other sections include, preforming an “opening of the key” a Golden Dawn method. I will have to try this, I have avoided this because I felt it a difficult thing to learn from a book. I trust Wen will not lead me astray. Wen also gives attention to the Tarot de Marseille and the Thoth decks. A chapter for professional readers is also included, which includes nice bar graphs on demographics and other statistical information. There are some sections, which I am omitting from my review for time constraint reasons. There are many valuable parts of the book in addition to the ones I have selected. Too many to discuss to be truthful. At the end, we have a treasure chest (120 pages) of an appendix. Truly, the appendix is a book of its own, highly valuable. I can’t stress how much I love charts! What is lacking from my observations is the application and influence of Hermetic Qabalah. If you were looking for a shortcoming, it would be this one thing. The Qabalah is essential to tarot like astrology. The relationship between the Tree of Life and Sephirot.Overall, I am deeply amazed and grateful for Wen’s contribution. Holistic Tarot has almost everything you need in one book. If your goal is to use tarot in the analytic approach of the modern tarot movement, Wen has given you your bible.

Review of Holistic TarotThis impressive book is a dissertation worthy of some advanced degree in the most rarified levels of Tarot Practice! When first holding it in my hands, I was overwhelmed with the sheer magnitude of it! Even as a paperback, it is HUGE enough to be a doorstop. I have a hardcover copy of War and Peace that is smaller than this! I think the only paperback I have ever seen that could compare to this for sheer size is a technical reference book, which in a way, also describes "Holistic Tarot".Ms. Wen was not messing around when she wrote this...I don't know how she managed it, while also working in such a demanding, full-time profession such as the Law, but here it is, and it's not full of fluff or fillers, either- it's solid, densely packed information. There are tried and true layouts, original and inventive layouts, derivative layouts adapted for use with Tarot, comparisons and correspondences, keywords and cross-references all gathered together to form a comprehensive matrix you could use to form cement. This is foundation-making material, for sure.I opened it and waded in, and even with my 40 year background in Tarot, I found myself hip-deep in minutes, wishing I had brought camping gear and a machete with me...because this was going to be slower-going than I've been accustomed to since college...(and I read constantly- so that's really saying something!) I kept having to stop and ponder, since some of the strong opinions expressed run counter to all the...I guess you would say "current paradigms" in Tarot-land.That's ok. Ms. Wen is certainly entitled to her own point of view, and she explains her reasoning very clearly. I can understand why she thinks/believes as she does, and while I don't always agree, I will staunchly defend her right to do and believe as she sees fit. This is HER book, so she gets to call the shots between the title page and the index. We don't have to like it. However...I must say that I DO like it! I have never been a fan of simpering sycophants, and I appreciate a person with an independent point of view...(even when I'm wading through their rather turgid prose, LOL.)I should say here, that this is not a book for the fluffy, the wannabee, or the surface-skimming hobbyist. This is a seriously deep immersion experience, and it requires GUTS. It can be slow-going, and you'll find yourself back-tracking, just to make sure you've really grasped some of the finer points. If that is too much for some, I will happily direct them them to the Cliff-Notes style works, written by all too many other writers. Leave this to the serious Tarotists, who really want something they can sink their teeth into.Happily, "Holistic Tarot" can also be used as a sort of dictionary, where you can look up discrete packets of specific information, and then close it before it swallows you up, whole. If you need to avoid the full immersion experience, this can be done, with a certain amount of self-control. For those of you who fear to be engulfed by its quicksand maw, just be prepared to exercise a little restraint, and take the dictionary approach. Do not allow yourself to be tempted, or the hours and days will fly by, and you'll re-emerge like Rip Van Winkle, blinking in the bright light of day, wondering what happened. If you can't resist the lure of the depths, first caffeinate thoroughly, put down kibbles for the pets, turn off the phone, take a deep breath, and dive in! You will find yourself in a demanding realm of powerful currents, that will take your mind to far places, even if you thought you were experienced and knew what to expect. It's one of those phenomena where you feel that you're moving very slowly, if at all, and then find yourself shockingly far from where you began in time/space.I especially liked the chapter on "Using Tarot to Build Resilience" (Chapter 28).Seriously good advice lives in that locale! This is the stuff our clients come to us for- and this is the stuff WE started reading Tarot for- validation, empowerment, self-realization and affirmation. This is therapy, and vitamin I (I for Information). This is crisis management in a (virtual) jar. I love it!I should add here, that this is an excellent investment for the person who is serious about attaining a deeper grasp of Tarot-think. Where else can you get what is essentially the equivalent of a Mastery Level course in this very valuable subject for around $30?I rest my case.I should note here that this book was received directly from the publisher for review purposes.

Wow! This was a powerful book about a family secret. This was not so taboo but common knowledge among the older generation. This book touched on some real issues of when you get angry with God and how destructive that path could be. It was about forgiveness. Reconciliation was one of the book themes. Also sharing the Gospel with others was emphasized along with a strong stable family environment. The prayers shared throughout the book were so powerful to me. At the end, I was crying but I also knew why Chris did what he did. An awesome testimony he'll get to share around the throne.I would highly recommend this book to others. This should be the topic of discussion for the next family gathering. A very thought provoking book indeed. I was blessed to be introduced to this author from another author. I truly enjoyed this read. The author did an excellent job with his first and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I was forty percent into this book and although I was very much enjoying the story line the errors made it almost impossible to enjoy the reading of it. This is a story of love, understanding, family and forgiveness. I don’t want to say anything about the plot because I feel you would get so much more out of it if you read it yourself. I am giving this book a rating of 3 just because of the poor editing.

Finished reading Never Gonna be the same yesterday, WOW that was some powerful writing. The characterisation was very realistic and it kept me guessing how it would end right up until the end. It did have one or two typos and a few parts were a little hard to follow but it didn't detract from the enjoyment of reading it.

I had to skip through a lot of this book. It was a good topic just not realistic how how was written. This boy was 18 and they had him acting older than the grandparents and they made it wrong for people to hurt, and the made it seem like being in the church is wallet saved you. The child found out something bad and they acted like he was supposed to forgive the next day sometimes you have to process and give God time to work.

Excellent read

I’m happy that I read this novel. It was a well-written, good read about love and forgiveness. I was touched by this story about two brothers whose bond changed when a family secret was discovered. The author wrote with a lot of heart. He did an excellent job showcasing diverse characters and their issues. Their personal struggles were grueling but I was encouraged by their paths to forgiveness and restoration. This story is a wonderful display of faith at work, and the importance of having a relationship with God.I’m looking forward for more from this author. Good job, Gomer. Grab a copy!

I enjoyed this book about a young man finding out secrets in his life. I identified with how we struggle and sometimes get angry with God when storm hit. I marveled on how all the characters still kept their faith inGod and love for one another to the end
