It includes a useful chronology that the reader is encouraged to work through. The heart of the narrative is the description, necessarily brief, of the various combatant armies. The narrative is nicely helped along by the expected and well-executed color plates of uniforms, armor and weapons, and the very helpful inclusion of photographs of re-enactors in period costume, which provide a sense of scale. Well recommended as a concise introduction to the topic.

This book was very well organized and I liked the biographies of several people with disabilities. The only thing that I noticed is that several people, such as Randy Snow, Christopher Reeve, Joni Earickson Tada, etc., were not included in the book. Otherwise, its a great book and would be a good resource for book reports for kids and teens.

An Amazing read for anyone to read about what it's like to be disabled and how you can still accomplish what a person wants with their lives. People of all ages should start experiencing/empathizing with people who are disabled. We are still people and all life should be preserved and respected.

I love this book and so does my older son (age 20) who has Aspergers. He is currently reading it with great enthusiasm, and carrying it with him wherever he goes; I think it is inspiring for him and encouraging. The format of the book is user-friendly, each chapter featuring one exceptional person, pictures included, chapters arranged in chronological order. The writing style is easy to read and understand, everyone in our household can enjoy this book (ages 12 to 50). People are fascinating, and this book celebrates that and piques our curiosity to learn more.

I bought this book for a student that as learning disabilities. It was just the kind of book I was looking for. Something to give him confidence.

Extraordinary People with Disabilities by Kent and Quinlan (Grolier Publishing 1996) This excellent book tells the stories of over 50 outstanding individuals who overcame their disabilities. It is written so that one can choose to read short segments. However, when I picked it up, I felt energized and needed to read it cover-to-cover. The people profiled are from a variety of racial and economic backgrounds. Many of these individuals had physical disabilities but some of the stories profile people with learning or emotional disabilities. Through these stories, the book takes an activist stance. It tells of many who not only overcame their own disabilities, but went on to help other disabled people. The stories make it easier to understand the points of view of disability rights activists. The final chapter gives an overview of important new technological aids for the disabled. It explains why some of these aids are controversial among the disabled community. A glossary gives succinct definitions of many of the terms used in the book. An appendix at the back of the book list many of the major organizations that advocate for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. I want more of this kind of Colfer and less of the gruesome hangman series. I love the Fowl series for wonderful writing, humor and the fantasy society that Fowl finds himself in. His comrades have believable personalities and fun quirky habits and beliefs. It is just a fun series with a nice set of bad guys that are easy to hate but still make you laugh they are so self centered. By far one of my favorite series for this age group. Write more!

Artemis Fowl is easily my favorite series for kids. I would recommend those books to anyone. This companion piece is a decent addition to the Fowl canon, but it's a lot more forgettable. The two short stories are decent enough, and even give some backstory I had missed out on for the 7th book in the series, but they just don't reach the heights of the novels.

Great series!

I think my title says it all. I enjoy the Artemis Fowl series, and I'm a 43-year old mother! This book gave some interesting background on particular characters in the series, i.e. how Holly Short came to be Julius Root's favorite LEP. I've never tried to decipher Colfer's codes and this book gives the code away. It has lots of short pieces. I read this book whenever I had nothing else to read.

Perfect

The short stories are very good quality, as we've come to expect from Eoin Colfer. But this book has more to it. There are descriptions of creatures mentioned that are a bit more in-depth, and, of course, the gnommish alphabet. Now, the lines of hieroglyphics at the bottom of the pages of the novels (not to mention a cover or two) can be deciphered. That makes this book worth owning just in itself!

The Artemis Fowl Files have 2 short stories which fans can love! We see how Captain Holly Short became a captain and a short stort where Artemis and Mulch join forces to get a tiara. We also can read about Foaly's experiments and see what they appear like. There's also puzzles that fans can enjoy and complete. Great for all Artemis Fowl Files to have in their collection. Great book series too, and I recommend every one to read them. It shows a selfish, mastermind kid becoming a true hero who values his friends and family. Five stars!

The impression I got from The Death Code was night and day from the one I received from The Murder Complex. The Death Code sucked me in and didn't let go until the last word. Even now, I feel like there is another adventure out there for Meadow and Zephyr springing from where this story left off. Everything moves super fast. We get to see a lot of different parts of this world in this book, and you are never in one long enough where you would get board with it. The characters are constantly moving, taking action, and pushing the story along. The pages fell away as I read, and I enjoyed every minute of it. There is a lot of killing and violence in this story but no more than The Murder Complex. My favorite part was at the end in The Ridge. I loved The Hunger Games vibes with different tribes fighting each other and different plagues set upon them throughout the days. I wouldn't call this book romantic. There is a love story in it, but we spend a lot of the time in an 'I'm not sure if I can be with you now that all of this crap has happened in my life' state. Therefore, you don't really feel the lovey-dovey emotions along with them as you would in a book where the romance sends tingles up your spine. The ending was sweet and hopeful. The adventurous side of this book made for a really great read.

I stopped about two-thirds through. It's boring even with its continual reactionary violence. It's predictable-done for shock value and adds little to the story. The same things keep happening just with different villains-who are cartoon stock. How many times does road runner get run over and it no longer matters? The same here-Meadow continually falls into the same type of abuse by villains-it's no longer interesting- she continues to have the same self talk that no longer matters to readers-in fact, Meadow's character's arc is flat-so yes, it's like Watching cartoon reruns. Yawn

So I'm kind of done with this genre - the YA Dystopian one, that is.And while I do enjoy Cummings writing, this book was just too long for me.Its weird, actually, 'cause I flew through it. Read like a 100 pages in one sitting, which is good for me. But I still felt it dragged.I could see what was going to happen a mile away, and didn't really like it.And everything that happened just felt like filler.While everything about the first book makes sense, this one didn'tIt just felt like Cummings added a lot of random stuff, that was just there to make action, and that was sooo boring.So I'm glad this was the last book in the series

What a book. This is the sequel to the Murder Complex and I definitely recommend reading it first. I loved both books and gave both of them 5 stars.

This book picks up like three weeks after the end of the first book. Zephyr is out searching for Lark, Meadow's mother, so he can kill her and destroy the Initiative. Meadow is locked up by the Initiative being tortured for information on her mother and the resistance. After the resistance finds a successful way to get Meadow to cooperate with them, they release her to lure her mother out of hiding. She manages to accomplish that and then Zephyr comes along and kills Lark. Then all the Patients attack the Initiative and in the chaos Zephyr, Sketch, and Meadow all escape the Shallows. Now they're setting off on Meadow's mission to find and rescue her family.I wanted to like this book. I really did. I liked the first one. But I can't remember why. I can't remember really anything about the first one. I feel like I could have liked this one better if I could remember anything. But I just couldn't get into this book. It felt like a chore to finish this book. I kept hoping it would get better.I did not like Meadow. I found her to be incredibly unlikable throughout the whole book. She doesn't care about anyone around her or the fact that they were sacrificing everything to help her find her family. She doesn't act grateful at all. There was not one single point in this book where I can remember feeling anything for her at all. Or even thinking anything nice.Zephyr, I just felt bad for him. He follows Meadow around like a lost puppy, waiting for her to give him a second glance. And he acts like he’s only there because he has to be, not because he wants to help the girl he supposedly loves to find her missing family.Sketch, I just found her to be annoying. And her and Zephyr’s constant childish arguments.Something I noticed about both of these books is things are always described the same way. In the first book, there are seemingly constant mentions of how silver Meadow’s hair is. And in this one, every single time Zephyr and Sketch started arguing, it was said that they were arguing like children.Something that I liked about this book would be that the chapters were short so it was always easy to find a stopping spot when I had to put the book down for any reason.I mostly gave this book two stars because of how badly I wanted to like it. I would probably not ever re-read this book. However, I did like the first one quite a bit and I liked the first book that’s out in the author’s other series. This book just was not for me.

Really good sequel to The Murder Complex. Well written.

It was a little hard to read at some points because it would rip out my soul but other than that it was awesome.

Her editor failed her.. the writing errors and lack of setting description and event connection almost made me stop reading this and the first novel. The main characters are also slightly annoying with their tunnel vision.HOWEVER. the story is original and I refused to stop reading because I was so interested in what would happen.

After watching the movie and loving it, I thought I'd read the book. It's a cute story, but it was just okay. I won't read this book again, but I'll watch the movie over and over again. I don't know why people say it's just like the movie, because it's really not. The basic plot is the same, but the "details" are all different...and it's the details I love about the movie. SPOILERS AHEAD: There are things I like better about the book (Lydia Ann is more understanding for example), but it was all completely ruined when Noah saw Andy taking advantage of Emma (nothing TOO bad, just forced a kiss...which is bad enough in my opinion) and assumed she "wanted" that and drove away. Then didn't give her a chance to explain because he avoided her. What if Andy had tried to do more? How could Noah not tell that she was trying to get away, even if she was in Englisher clothes? I could take all of the other differences and even appreciate the actual story/world the author created and not the one the screenwriter made, but after reading that part, I'll never read this book again. However, I'll watch the movie over and over again (and have lol).

This is the second book by this author that I have read. I really enjoy her writing. The first book I read was "Love Finds You in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania". I should have read it after this book. Both can be read as a stand alone if only reading one of these books. I thoroughly enjoyed the main characters of this book and the interaction of their individual stories. The chance meeting of Emma who is Amish and Kelly who is an Englisher and their unusual close friendship that developed kept me turning the pages non stop. Then there was Abby, Emma's sister who was a main part of this book. There was a lot of twist and turns. I just liked this book so much. I highly recommend it.

Excellent book! It differed only slightly from the movie! I stumbled on the movie and discovered the book. I love both! Very easy, predictable read. I love Amish fiction and this one did not disappoint!

Restless with her plain life and seaking an adventure she jumps at a chance to travel to another Amish community to be summer help in a window's quilt shop. She makes friends with a Englisher young lady and desires to try out pretty clothes and shoes. This story is about her struggles to stay Amish or not and where she wants to live. A Nice story.

This book was "charming", just like its name. I love the friendships established and how they were "by chance". The outcome of the book is relative to many events in the book. I loved it!
